Five Ways to Put Your Logo on a Cap
The method is a technical decision, not a preference. It depends on your artwork, the fabric, the colours and the quantity. Here is what each one does and where it works.
Flat embroidery
The default for most programmes. Thread is stitched directly into the crown in one to twelve colours. Sharp edges, durable through washing, and the most cost-effective option for wordmarks and simple icons.
Works best for: logos with clear shapes and solid colour blocks.
3D puff embroidery
Foam is laid under the stitching so the logo sits proud of the fabric. Gives a strong physical presence on the shelf and on camera.
Works best for: bold wordmarks and simple silhouettes. Not for fine detail or small text.
Appliqué
A shaped fabric patch is stitched onto the crown, with embroidery layered on top. Lets you bring in a second fabric or a two-tone design that thread alone cannot achieve.
Works best for: large graphics and designs with more than one material.
Tonal etching
No added colour — the logo is defined by texture and light rather than pigment. Understated, and the cap still reads as fabric rather than decoration.
Works best for: premium and lifestyle brands that do not want a loud logo.
Heat transfer
Full-colour print applied with heat and pressure. Handles gradients, fine line work and photographic detail that stitching cannot reproduce.
Works best for: detailed artwork, full-colour graphics and small text.
Which one should you choose?
| Your artwork | Likely method |
|---|---|
| Solid logo, one to six colours | Flat embroidery |
| Bold wordmark, few colours | 3D puff embroidery |
| Large graphic, or needs a second fabric | Appliqué |
| Subtle, tone-on-tone branding | Tonal etching |
| Gradients, photos, fine text | Heat transfer |
Send the artwork and we will tell you which method we recommend and why. If two would work, we will show you the cost difference.

What we need from you
To quote accurately
- Style — a code from this site, or a photo or drawing of what you want.
- Quantity — per colour, so we can check it against the minimum.
- Colours — Pantone references if you have them, or a swatch.
- Artwork — vector file. If you only have a JPG, send it and we will tell you what can be done with it.
- Destination — country and postcode, so the shipping can be quoted.
If you are still deciding, send what you have. A rough brief gets a rough answer, which is usually enough to tell whether the project is viable.
